Mbale City Hands Over to The Judiciary Land for Construction of a Regional Court of Appeal
Monday January 22, 2024: Officials from Mbale City handed over land to the Judiciary for the construction of a regional Court of Appeal.
The City's Lord Mayor, HW Namugali Kassim, handed over the land title of the former Wamala Division offices to Mbale Resident Judge, Hon. Justice Lubega Farouq. Hon. Justice Lubega in turn, handed over the land to the Commissioner of Engineering and Technical Services, Eng Dr. Christopher Ebal.
The Judge thanked the City authorities for responding swiftly and hoped that the Court would help increase revenue for the city and foster access justice.
The Permanent Secretary Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Ms Dorcus W. Okalany, took the court officials on a tour of the land and said the process to transfer ownership to the Judiciary is on and that they can start occupation of the land.
Dr Ebal, who represented the Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the Judiciary, noted that the Judiciary is ready to start construction. He thanked the City for handing over the title of the half acre piece of land.
Ms Okalany said she was glad that the City has finally allocated land to the Judiciary for the construction of an appellate court.
HW Namugali promised to support the Judiciary in its quest to improve access to justice as well as add development to the City.
Hon. Masaba Karim, MP Industrial Division, Mbale City said when constructed, the Court will reduce case backlog and bring justice services closer to the people now that the Parliament recently increased the number of Court of Appeal Justices.
Mr Ocen Ambrose, the Mbale City Town Clerk confirmed that the local leadership is ready to approve the drawings of the building.
In attendance were; The Acting Deputy Registrar Mbale High Court, HW Mukanza Robert, Assistant Registrar HW Nankya Nusulah as well as members of the Regional Chain-linked Committee.
